Port Chester Fest
Port Chester Fest is a celebration of local art, diversity, inclusion, music, and culture. It has become one of the most anticipated local events of the year. Held on the waterfront in Port Chester, this event showcases musicians from around the world, while providing various, fun-filled, creative workshops. These workshops provide a wonderful environment for people of all ages to work together, express their creativity, and learn about different cultures. Additionally, the Festival showcases local, artists, poets, musicians, and restaurants.
In 2007, The Council of Community Services conducted an in-depth needs assessment of Port Chester and Rye Town. One of the most prominent needs was an opportunity for people from different cultures to spend time together. Number one suggestion was a multicultural arts festival; the result was Port Chester Fest.
On the main stage there will be a new performance every forty-five minutes. Performances will start at noon and will include performances from all around the world, represented a diversity of different cultures, dance, and music.
One of the most important elements of the Festival is the interactive family workshops. Last year, there were four workshops, including making Latin musical instruments, Mexican face painting, clay working, and “Green Bottle Dolls” (dolls made by recycling materials). These workshops provided a wonderful environment for people of all ages to work together, express their creativity, and learn about different cultures.
Another wonderful part of Port Chester Fest is the participation of local restaurants. Last year, six restaurants hosted musicians and performers during and after the festivals. This established a stronger connection between the festival and the community. In 2009, 20 additional restaurants/vendors served a variety of food at the festival, with a focus on different ethnic cuisines.
